In RedHat, the file /etc/sysconfig/desktop has variable
DESKTOP="GNOME"
Change it to "KDE" or "KDE2"
log out of X and hit ctl-alt-backspace
If it doesn't come up from that key sequence, you will need to get a
command line root login, telinit 3, killall -9 gdm, telinit 5
/etc/X11/prefdm is searched for what to do on xdm startup.
