[ale] Image creation

GIMP is a great  program for Manipulating Images (like it says), but I 
find that it's fairly week for creating images. (Mind you, I'm 
artisticaly inept).  Is there a better program open source program when 
you want to draw images (or in my case, construct from various shapes, 
including text.
