[ale] Debian-2.4.17 make modules fails regarding -> sis,..... huh ?

Greetings !

Attempting to install Debian-2.4.17 all goes well with compiling the 
kernel but when I .......

	make modules

I get an error message pertaining to

	drivers/video/sis

which I don't even use. I also checked that it is not inadvertently
chosen by the 'make menuconfig' settings.

What's going on here and how is it remedied, please ?

I am currently running 2.4.6 and am compiling in a non-standard location 
but have successfully done this before.
