[ale] running apps in the root window

Couldn't you load an xterm (or Eterm [my preference]) and set its wm
properties (i use sawfish) to no border or "frameless" and then just put
windows on top of it. That's how my setup is and I have a log file that
scrolls as my "background" in X and my windows on top of it.
