[ale] I have made a decision to purchase a new external modem

I purchased (several years ago) an external 3com/US Robotics 56K voice
faxmodem pro. It has both serial and USB port connections. It has
performed like a champ. It's principle use is as a voice and fax
receiver using mgetty-sendfax and vgetty. It has been great. It was
rather expensive (over $125) though.
