[ale] oracle installation probs

ai friend,
           while i install the oracle 8i in linux, my
linux box give the following error

Error in setting permission of file/directory
/u01/app/oracle/jre/1.1.8/bin/linux/native_threads/libawt.so

i skip that file while installation, but i cann't
login as any user say for example

[oracle @domex oracle] # sqlplus system/manager

output is 

Error while trying to retrieve text for error
ORA_12545

please any one hlep me to solve the same,please....
