[ale] dsl filters?

It depends. The filters prevent the DSL "noise" from sounding like
static on the analog voice lines. Without the filters, it just sounds
like there is a hiss on the line in addition to the voices. The older
DSL line had a splitter that was installed at the head of the line. It
would split off the DSL traffic and filter the remaining voice lines. It
really depends on the installer. Most DSl carriers are shipping the
small inline filters as they are easier to install and require just the
customer.
