[ale] gnupg signatures

I have only played with this once.   I couldn't get my family interested in
using at the time.   But I am still interested in it.
My biggest question is with this the setup?  And or there any fees?  I can't
remember which one it was but they bugged
Constantly for money and other garbage.

Neither. All the keyservers (in theory) propogate out all
the keys to each other, so if you add it to one, it will
eventually end up on all. As far as I know, ALE does not
maintain its own keyring.

I suspect the problem is the way you are searching for the
keys, as the keyservers can be quite picky. The best way is
to use the 8 character hexadecimal key signature, which is
really just the last 8 characters of the key's unique
fingerprint (see the headers of my emails for mine). Usually the
8 characters are sufficient to locate a key. Make sure you
add a "0x" in front of the sig, and use all uppercase. For
example, if you go to the web interface of any of these
keyservers:

http://certserver.pgp.com/

http://pgp.mit.edu/

http://www.keyserver.net/

and enter "0x14964AC8", you will get my key. You can also enter
names, but that is a little more tricky, as you usually get
many results.

Actually signing someone's key and integrating yourself into a
web of trust is another matter. I'd love to see ALE get more
involved in building a web of trust; impromptu key signings at
the monthly meeting(s) would be a great start. Please let me know
if anyone has GPG-related questions: I'd love to see more people
get involved and signing their emails.
