Hey, I think that may work. I'll see if they can try that. They do have a
backup, but this may be quicker. Thanks better than having them start from
scratch ...pj

For the future if this gets sorted out, you might try the Tripplite
software for running your UPSes. It has interoperability with many
types of legacy UPSes. The file system problem might could be prevented
in the future if you switch to a journaled filesystem. If the partition
table is gone, can't Paula remake it to the exact same specs and then
try a reboot? Under IRIX, I can actually specify the same
sizes/locations and a partition will reappear as long as no format or
filesystem creation has taken place on the drive where the old partition
resided.
