[ale] DirecTV DSL and RH Linux 7.1

Hello, Jim:
First you might want to call Tech Support (the times that I have called
them on a Linux problem, they did not bat an eye and went ahead and
helped) - since you are paying for it. Ok, other than that...

Make sure your modem/router is up and working. On mine, it is ok when I get
2 green lights. Make sure that you have a straight cable and not a
crossover cable from your PC to the modem/router. Look up your card on the
Linux Hardware list and make sure you are using the right driver. See if
you can ping your modem/router (the address is given to you) and then see if
you can bring up your web interface to your modem/router (in a web browser
hit http://address - it should be in IP address form, i.e. 123.123.13.2 or
some such). If you get to the interface, make sure you see a green "up" for
the Telocity Gateway, the Internet connection is on and the Telocity
Connection. You can peruse and print out the Connection Details and Advanced
Information/Diagnostics if you want. Also given are such things as speed,
max load , average load, DNS addresses, and a slew of other stuff. It is
only seen from your side. It is very helpful info for seeing if it is your
problem, a connection problem, or a Telocity problem. Make sure you are
using your router/modem for your gateway, too.

Here are some links that I have/found that might help you:

	Good Luck,
