[ale] unknown programs [seemingly] auto running under RedHat6.1.......

Uh, probly tmpwatch(1)? Runs outta /etc/cron.daily also. Looks like it
hits
several directories on a RH system, including /tmp, /var/tmp,
/var/cache/man, /var/catman.

Hmm. What time were you up?

slocate is the guy who rebuilds and searches the slocate(1) index; this
is a tool which
does indexed filename searches of your entire hard drive. It's blinding
way fast and worthwhile to know & use, 'specially if you spend a lot of
time at the command line (I'm guilty). Usually the index builder runs
from /etc/cron.daily; the command line is in
/etc/cron.daily/slocate.cron.

mdrecoveryd is some kind of magic RAID thing. It's got a buncha refs in
google. If you're not running a RAID, you might not need it?

Greetings !

Last night I noticed "slocate" and "mdrecoveryd" running. I didn't run
them. What are they and how can I best determine who/what is causing
this ?

Appreciatively,
Courtney
