One K00L place to start on this is Linux Gazette
(http://www.linuxgazette.com). They pay no money, but they'll give you
editorial help and they archive old stuff so you can include a URL with
your resume. Good folks. Check my article there at

organizations like this is also Giving Back to the Community, an
important part of being a good Open Source D00d.

Actually getting paid for your words is great resume fodder but
difficult. You can write to most (print) magazines for a "writer's
guide" which explains what you can do to increase your chances of
selling something to them. Dr. Dobbs, for example, publishes a yearly
editorial content schedule.  As a general rule, short specific articles
stand a better chance of seeing the light of day than long rants about
the Wonders of[Linux//BeOS//OS/2//FreeBSD//GPL//etc]. Go to the library
and check the reference section for the Writer's Market. This is a
yearly publication which lists magazines which accept freelance work by
subject and gives brief information on how to contact them and what
they're looking for. Very useful, not just for finding potential
publishers but also for getting a feel for what might sell.

I would like to build up my resume some.  One idea I have is to publish
some articles.  I have some ideas for some "tips, tricks & techniques"
articles for web development and website scraping articles using mostly
Perl.  Does anyone have any suggestions of where I could publish these.
I've already thought of 'Web Techniques', 'Linux Journal' and 'DR.
Dobb's'.  Any other suggestions.
