[ale] Regarding replies to the list...

I prefer option #2, then #1 - though I believe it is rude to ask a list for
help and then ask for a reply back directly, since they don't subscribe to
the list. However, I can accept someone posting from a work address where
they don't/cannot subscribe and desire a direct reply.
