[ale] weird tgz shenanigans

haha. yes, but I already knew who wears the pants in this family.  I
thought I was the master of this domain at least.  

per the id command,

id root
uid=0(root) gid=0(root)
groups=0(root),1(bin),2(daemon),3(sys),4(adm),6(disk),10(wheel)

id michele
uid=501(michele) gid=501(michele) groups=501(michele)
	
id jeff
uid=500(jeff) gid=500(jeff) groups=500(jeff),503(music)

it only happens when I save a file as jeff and then untar it as root. 
If I save a file and untar as root, root is the owner.  Maybe I don't
fully understand the uid,gid thing but see how root could be the same as
michele.
