[ale] OT: ugh, nasty decision

I'm a little late on this one, but I have experience with all but the
Dreamcast (I knew it was dead before it even came out).

Xbox - it's nice, my 11yo son loves it, my 8yo daughter likes it. Not many
games for younger children though. Best graphics, IMHO.

Gamecube - Both of my kids like it, but play Xbox and PS2 more. Best game
selection for younger kids, great for 5-11yo kids.

PS2 - My 8yo daughter loves this one the best. Best all around, has good
games for young ones, and cool games for adults. Plays DVD's right out of
the box (Xbox you have to buy extra, Gamecube doesn't even go there). It is
backward compatible, it will play all PS1 games, and there are some cool
games for the kids from that series.

All said and done, for a 5yo, I would buy the Gamecube, then wait till
January and buy either the Xbox or PS2 for yourself.
