[ale] setting profile on Redhat 7.0

This may, or may not have anything to do with the problem, but I have 
noticed that when using Mandrake set to automatically start X when 
booting, commands in .bash_profile don't get executed.  If I logout of 
X and log in again, they then work.  Should I put them in .bashrc 
instead?
