[ale] [OT] AJC Article on State Welfare System

No, No, NO!

You have to keep the scruples field to support those long-term plans we
have, that we keep putting off. The designers of the system were
CERTAIN we would need that field eventually, but alas, it has been so
unnecessary that we could actually just overload another field for that
use. Of course, a while back some would try to overload the first_name
field for that on their own initiative... "Honest John", "Honest Abe".

Wouldn't it be great if it worked the other way... If politicians
actually took pride in who they are, calling themselves things like:
"Black Bart" Olzenski, Joe "The Terror" Flanagan, Jimmy "the Cucumber"
Liebowitz. It'd be like voting for your favorite wrestler. Oh wait,
some people already do that!

Tee Hee! There goes the database!

Seriously, if one were designing a politician_table, why bother with a
scruples field anyway? The default could be set for null, but it would
seem to be a waste of storage space!
