Hi Miguel,
You might get faster answers if you tried the Gentoo mailing list...
You are definitely gonna have a problem with a drive that size, but that
shouldn't cause a problem at the stage you are (emerge rsync).
How much memory do you have?
How are you booting? CDROM? (if so, which one)
Could be a problem with the mirror you are connecting to...
What is GENTOO_MIRRORS pointing in make.conf? Should be:
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo
