Chris: NoCat authenticates to a central database (MySql). It's robust
enough for now, and I don't think we're prepared yet to start developing a
system like that of our own. And when that time comes, NoCat isn't a bad
starting point.

I would stay away from nocat. Creating a robust database authentication
system would be the best way. Plus you own it and can fully customize it.
If you need hardware to support this organization call a friend of mine,
Dan, at 770-639-1112. He lives in NJ but his company creates the equipment
that many wireless IP's use.
If you need help on infastructure that give me an email and I can help you
on this.

Note: This is basically a blatant plug for another organization, but I
wasn't sure how else to let you all know about it..
My name is Matt Smith, and I've created a group called the Atlanta Freenet
(http://www.atlantafreenet.org). The idea is to set up wireless networks
(802.11x) around town to link together/to the Internet and experiment with.
We've got a good number of interested people, but not many linux-savvy
folks. One of the components is a centralized authentication system called
NoCatAuth (http://www.nocat.net). It runs on linux, and is usually
implemented on a dual-nic machine, which gets into routing, etc, and very
quickly gets over the heads of the casually-interest-in-wireless person.
I just wanted to let everyone know about this and see if anyone is
interested. I've got a discussion forum set up, so come on over and
introduce yourself if you're interested. We could really use some more
folks to get up to kind of a critial mass to get things going.
Thanks in advance.
