It sounds very cool. I'd definitely go to ALS if it was here again. I
have never been to a Linux convention, tho i did go to Interop a couple
years ago. There was a business oriented Linux section stuck way in the
back. But it seems like you are preaching to the converted in a way.
What I think would be cool would be to put on a small Linux
demonstration/installfest on college campuses, say GSU, KSU,
SouthernPolytechnic. But visible to the Computer Science, Business and
CIS,Physics, Math students. Most of those kids have never been exposed
to Linux and really have to seek it out to get exposure. If you could
get SuSE or Mandrake to sponsor the event with free distros to hand
out, and those working the event would pledge email support I think the
technically minded students would be more inclined to try it.
Linux started with individual hobbyists and from there has spread.
Getting more hobbyist interested seems like a good thing.

We could have a series of HOWTOs to educate people about the various things that Linux can do. We could set up a mini-LAN so people can use Linux and each computer configured with a different KDE, Gnome, Ximian, etc. Finally we could have speaker come in and talk to the group. I am sure there is a little corporate money out there to help out.
