There *is* the one plus that, despite the cost, an absolutely minimal 
portion of your Mac purchase goes to the criminals at M$ (ignoring that 
M$ owns a significant interest in Apple and Mac buyers get further 
M$hafted with licensing for Internet Exploiter [et al]).

Buying any "over the counter" x86 based system pretty much guarantees 
that Micro$haft extracted their pound of extortion money from a 
manufacturer or distributor somewhere up the line from you. Even if a 
winblows OS isn't  installed on the system, the SOP for M$ OEM contracts 
is to require winblows be used for all final x86 system QC testing.

On third though, I guess about the only way to avoid the M$ penalty is to 
build your x86 box from components.

Oh, yeah... you also have the option of installing Linux on a 25 to 50 
mhz 68040/68060 Amiga!
