Hey Ken,

There are some Mac folks in ALE ... I would fit the profile of a Macoholic.
As Alan noted, integration between Macs and Linux boxes is much easier if
you're running Mac OS X.  Your options on earlier Mac operating systems
usually involve payware, DAVE by Thursby Software is a good option in this
case.  Thursby recently released DAVE for OS X; it also allows you to share
local volumes via SMB but it's not quite ready for prime time (it's the only
software on my OS X workstation that has caused kernel panics).

If you're using Mac OS X you've got both samba and nfs clients on your Mac.
I haven't been using the nfs client myself, but there's info on the web. I
do
use the samba client. I have found it usable, but still needing some work.
It
gets slow when a mounted directory has a large number of files in it and
seems to have some trouble seeing when files have changed on the server.

To mount a samba share: In the Finder choose "Connect to Server..." from
the "Go" menu. In the address field type in smb://hostname/sharename.
You'll get a dialog asking for workgroup, login, and password. Once
mounted, the share will appear on your desktop.
