Responsible for supporting the Development Team in a dynamic environment. Frequently called upon to provide technical assistance to the QA and IT departments. Support included both infrastructural work on servers and networks as well as research and short-term problem solving for these groups. Demonstrated initiative, reliability, versatility, and a drive to help these teams succeed.
Specific accomplishments and duties include:
Upgraded main production server from SparcServer5 to an UltraSparc5, from Solaris 2.5.1 to Solaris 2.8.
Extensive work with Solaris DiskSuite (metatool) to provide redundancy in a software RAID.
Installed and maintained testing/QA platforms in HP/UX (9, 10.10, 10.20, 11.00), Solaris (2.5.1, 2.6, 2.7, 2.8), AIX, Linux (Slackware and Redhat - multiple revisions of both).
Reseached and applied software and OS patches.
Administered MySQL (Open-Source SQL server).
Setup remote Customer Support Site for Trouble-ticketing, Feature-requests. Included scripted routines to check server availability and alert administrators if it failed.
Implemented network accessible cdrom burning server w/ scripted menu interaction.
Data Recovery.
Implemented backup / recovery procedures.
Excellent familiarity with the Macintosh operating system. Very good familiarity with Windows (95 - 2000).
Good familiarity with *BSD.
Built Linux-based router. Moved production network from hubs to VLANs hooked into a Catalyst 5505. The subnets were connected via 802.1Q trunk ports to the linux router. Included custom kernel work, network driver hacking. The resultant network made extensive use of variable length subnet masks.
Scripted Automatic nightly mirroring of Perforce Branch Changes to Remote Ftp Server.
Built and administered a BIND 9 DNS server and a DHCP server, including integrating a web-interface for adding / moving hosts in DNS.
Implemented Open-SSH based VPN.
Administered Linux mailserver (Sendmail).
Used a variety of network diagnostic tools, including Shomiti Surveyer, TCPDump, various other sniffers.
Administrated Apache Webserver, Samba, Proftp servers.
Worked with Cisco, Extreme, Bay Networks, ADC, Nortel Switches.
Firewall configuration and administration.
Familiar with networking security concepts - such as host-based intrusion detection systems.
