A SIGBUS is usually caused by a misaligned memory read, but this isn't a
problem on ia32 architechures.
Instead, I'd point a finger towards defective RAM. Try scaling back the
memory timings, or replacing the sticks and see what happens.
(I once had a machine that would give me SIGBUS errors if there were >24
megs installed..)
