Any recent kernel (2.4.x) works fine. I haven't tried a 2.2.x kernel w/ the
rh7.1 compiler, but I suspect that it works as well. As for upgrading to Redhat
updated kernels (RPM's) you can find them at:

ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/updates/7.1/en/os

I haven't had any problems compiling any version of the 2.4.x kernels w/ Redhat
7.0, 7.1 or 7.2. They all seem to work fine. You shouldn't have to do anything
different.
