I have three boxes working off one run cheap 100Mbps IEEE 802.3u
100baseTX(generic pci card) connected to a cable modem without any
errors and a subnet connected a 3Com switching hub with linksys LNE 100TX
100 mbps for two years now without any problems.

Others have reported similar behaviour under high traffic, which explains my fluctuations in packet loss as well.

I'm hesitant to just patch this driver b/c I'm seeing reports that the patches don't fix this particular problem.
