Hi Courtney,
Just guessing here, but...
Check the permissions on Xwrapper. It should be like this:
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 7560 Jan 19 2001 /usr/X11R6/bin/Xwrapper
^
---| Note the suid bit is set.
If that is not it, check and see what your startx script is really doing. What does it exec at the end?
