[ale] wine and gnome

To get out of the GUI, try holding CTRL-ALT-F1  or F2, or F3, etc...

You'll probably get to a login prompt.  This is assuming you're sitting at
the machine and not remote (X or console).

As root, type:

init 3

This will get you out of the GUI. Then log in as your regular user and
create a .xinitrc file in your home directory. The file should contain
the command "startkde". Then when you type "startx" it will start KDE.
