[ale] Caching?

I'm running a 2.4.2 kernel, and using autofs to mount certain disks.
After a power loss I sent to cd to /mnt/images, and it was empty, the
log file reported the disk wouldn't mount because of errors, I ran an
fsck, it reported clean, I ran an fsck -f -y, it cleaned. I tried to
remount, it shows the disk as empty, I'm cussing. I mount the disk on
another mount point manually and it's showed the disk empty, but a
df -k didn't show the disk mounted. I unmounted, remounted and it came
up fine. Now I've restarted autofs, a few times, and it's still not
mounting.
Thoughts?
:wq!
