HI there,

That's is weird that you had those problems with mandrake and
redhat that both use the same set of scripts for managing the ethernet. I
recently set up two redhat boxes (a break from the norm of debian or
slackware) one for a raid card setup and one for a firewall. We have had
nothing but that same sort of trouble with the redhat box. I tried to
track down what that ifup script does. I can find nothing. BUT! You go in
and ifconfig eth0 xxx.xxx.xx.xxx net 255.255.252.0 up and you are fine...

On the firewall I balsted redhat and went with debian and I have
no trouble what so ever with the same hardware. I couldn't make heads or
tails of it. Hmm, OK that was just my two cents

The point of this is that it may not be your hardware. I would
test it one some other things before claiming that it is foo bared!

Thank you
Ken
