[ale] Gdk-ERROR **: BadAlloc

Well, I'm back on this gdk error that has me stumped.

At first imlib_gdk was complaining about not finding convert in
the root directory.  I do have two instances of "convert" on the
system (not sure how that happened), but one is in usr/local and
the other is in usr/X11R6.  Anyway, since they're both the same
version of the imagemagick convert I guess it doesn't matter, and
I symlinked one to /convert, and now I don't get the "/convert:
no such file or directory" error.  But I still get the following:

/usr/share/pixmaps/cards/splash.png

Gnome-WARNING **: g_is_image_filename called, you should use
gnome-mime instead

gdk_imlib ERROR: Cannot load image:
/usr/share/pixmaps/cards/backs/beige.png
All fallbacks failed.

===This error above is repeated for each png file, ad nauseum...

gdk_imlib ERROR: Cannot load image:
/usr/share/pixmaps/cards/suits_large/knuth-21x25.png
All fallbacks failed.
gdk_imlib ERROR: Cannot load image:
/usr/share/pixmaps/cards/slots/plain.png
All fallbacks failed.
Gdk-ERROR **: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
  serial 190 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0
  Gdk-ERROR **: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)
    serial 191 error_code 9 request_code 55 minor_code 0

Any help would be appreciated in getting to the bottom of this
pesky problem.
