if you try to make menuconfig or make xconfig to compile the kernel,
under networking/netfilter options/, the last two is for ipchains/ipfw??
cocmpatibility, if you insist to use ipchains under 2.4 kernel
much to say about why to convert to use iptables,
http://netfilter.samba.org/
download iptables.1.2, compile and run.

#another firewall scheme (netfilter) with a different way of specifying
#rulesets. However, there is a compile-time option for ipchains compatibility.
