[ale] server question

This is bizarre.  I'd place my bets on a getting-continually-worse faulty
memory chip or motherboard or other primary hardware device.

It's not as though the old kernel was unstable - it wasn't.  It just had
less features and bells and whistles and support, which you probably don't
need.  What exactly needs to be done for a new machine? 



I can't give out the client name, but it is a server for a net browser. I am assuming that they don't want to start from scratch with the set-up.

It is being used as a mail server for clients that use the browser, and the location the browser is downloaded from. It's just an intel wanna be generic piece of crap. I can give you specifics when I have to go down and reboot the stupid thing, which will probably be tonight sometime.

My first reaction would be to say "you need a new mysql", but it has been
performing well in the past.  Is the data more or less the same?


Well, they upgrade the browser version from time to time, and we do security upgrades occasionally. I don't know that it had performed well in the past. I only ended up having to deal with it since November. It was cracked once...We've been debating whether or not something got "left behind".

*now* if they didn't in the *past*.  Or has the server load increased?



I don't believe there have been any major database changes, and some of the processes did hang around in the past. The load has probably increased, due to more and more disgruntlement with netscrape, and people seeking alternate browsers.
