You need to dig up all of the specs on your video card and input everything manually--clock speeds, vertical & horizontal refresh rates, etc.--as you configure X. I would refrain from trying to start X with your current setting. If the settings are wrong and you are pushing your monitor too hard, you can fry it. Congratulations! You will be configuring X-Windows the way everybody used to do it back in the days before automated setup tools were available.

Subject: [ale] Laptop blues
Hi Everybody.
I recently purchased a Dell C800 and installed both Mandrake 8.0 and Red Hat
7.1 obtaining the same results;
After booting and configuring X, the computer crashes (freezes) and the
screen starts fading away as if it was "frying" the video card.
Setup is not recognizing the card, putting it under the "other" options and
does not give me any more video card options to choose from (both RH and
MKE).
Any sugestions?
Thanks,
Sergio
