I used an AUI-->RJ45 tranceiver once, no drivers needed.  It was just the same
as plugging the RJ45 right into the card.

Yes.  I've done HD15-->13w3 before, but never the reverse way which you're
talking about.  Search for '13w3 adapter' on ebay.
