"Learning Perl" is a good Perl intro for those who already know some
programming.  Those who don't already know programming might want to
look at "Elements of Programming with Perl"(ISBN 1884777805 ), which
tries to give an introduction to programming in addition to an intro to
Perl.  Professional programming types who need an intro to Perl will
probably want "Perl: The Programmer's Companion"(ISBN 047197563X),
which Tom Christiansen describes as "Learning Perl for the experienced
programmer".

But make sure you get the new, 3rd edition(ISBN 0596000278).
