What is a dongle?

I have used both the Circom and the 3Com. They are great.

Subject: [ale] dongle feedback

We've got 2 notebook computers in the family, and we seem to have a
"dongle-crisis" every other month. It's just a lousy interconnect
technology -- one wrong step or the curiosity of a 2-year-old makes me a
frequent shopper for used PCMCIA NICs on eBay.

Does anyone have any user opinions on NICs that are dongle-free (like the
Xircom) and supported by the pcmcia package?

We're also considering wireless, but that's another can of worms
for a later post.

Thanks.
