[ale] .signature weirdness

Well, aparently, "\_" is treated somewhere as a composite character that
means "remove the \_ from the line".

So my .sig has a .  I tried different escapes and quotes but no luck.

Weird. I'll probably run across the real cause when I least suspect it.
