   Out of the box, SuSE is as secure (maybe a little better) than any of the other non-security specific distros.  An example of a security specific distro would be HP's trusted linux, or the NSA's Security-Enhanced Linux.
   I lurked on the suse-security mailing list for a few months, and they do take it seriously, and react to problems fairly quickly.
   But, like any distro, you have to keep SuSE updated regularly.  I don't mean installing new versions of the distro, but upgrading individual packages, patches or even kernel patches when security enhancements are released.  It is a must for a secure system.
   I like most things about SuSE.  For the last 2 years, it's been my distro of choice.  RH being my second.

   No idea on how secure debian is.  I haven't heard anything special about it's security, so it is probably about like all the rest.
