[ale] apache + suse 7.2 pro + mod_php

I was playing with different linux distros and decided to try out SuSe for a
change.
Standard install went fine... everything except xine is running ok, but that
is another story.

apache started up fine with LDAP and PERL modules. My photo web pages are
done in PHP
so  installed mod_php with supporting rpms and guess what - segmentation
fault !
searched the web and had no luck so far.

boss:/etc/init.d # ./apache start

Syntax OK
unused


rcapache.log says "Syntax OK"

core is nowhere to be found :(

any brave ideas ???

of course I will ditch SuSe when debian will come out with woody, but that
is 6+ months away ....
