Page 22-23 describes how to create anti-aliased images directly from
Ghostscript.

Example:
 gs -q -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=pgm -dTextAlphaBits=4 -dGraphicsAlphaBits=4 
-sOutputFile=file.pgm file.ps
