[ale] Debian distribution

I have been trying to set up an old 486SX for DNS/DHCP.  I started with
Red Hat, but when the FTP install wouldn't allow non-anonymous FTP I
threw up my hands and gave Debian a shot for the first time.  The
install worked and the machine booted just fine and its networking
worked just fine, but I was too Debian-new to be able to get the
services I wanted in place and JUST those services, so I gave up on it
too.  But, I wound up really impressed with the whole apt-get
mechanism.  Bear in mind that I wasn't using X or anything and I had no
books or anything to go by, so I acknowledge that it was MY limitations
and not Debian's that caused me a problem.

Just to finish the story, I went back to using Red Hat (I figured out
how to accomodate the anon-only FTP), but only just last night did I
find out how to get eth0 to work after install (run modprobe, enable the
card in netconf, and add an alias line to conf.modules).
