Hmm... All the spam that I have seen recently on the ALE list was
relayed through hosts which are listed in ORBS. That includes:

216.216.47.210
Subject: [ale] Matrimonial,
Date: Sun, 24 Sep 00 20:19:35 Pacific Daylight Time

203.69.38.37
Subject: [ale] Clinics for the Future. Barrons article on DNAP !!
Date: Sat, 23 Sep 2000 16:31:00

203.69.38.37
Subject: [ale] DNAP EMERGING BIOTECH TRADING UNDER $1 !!!
Date: Fri, 22 Sep 2000 15:26:49

203.69.38.37
Subject: [ale] READRITE FORMS FIBER OPTICS COMPANY!!!!!!!
Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2000 13:11:08

If ORBS is being used to filter the list, then why are these getting through?

Robbie has done a lot to cut down on spamming by configuring the
ale.org mailer daemon to use the open relay list (ORBS) to block mail
from open relays. Most spammers rely on routing mail through
unsuspecting 3rd parties to relay their stuff, and by blocking the
open relays you can eliminate most spam attempts.

My personal opinion is that the amt. of Spam isn't high enough to
erect a barrier to befuddle people trying to post legitimate questions
to the list. I guess that's because I get tons more of it at work
than at home.
