I had the same problem with my abit bh6 mb.
the append line worked for me (just make shure you subtract a couple megs or youur
likely to get a nasty crash) not sure how much but I actually used to just type
linux mem=186M
at the lilo prompt and it worked for me with 192 megs.
also a recent bios upgrade from abit made it so I dont have to do that anymore.
