[ale] MySQL install problem

Hi all,
 
trying to install MySQL and the following is what I got when tried 
running...

/sbin/loader: Error: Unresolved symbol in 
/usr/local/mysql-3.23.24-beta-dec-osf4.0f-alphaev6/bin/mysqld:Â

unresolvable symbols-e 000912 11:00:21Â  mysqld ended
 
Does anyone know why is this?
