Robert,
You'll need to authorize the display before the connection will be
allowed. X provides mechanism for implementing many access control systems.Â
The sample implementation include five mechanisms:
Host Access                                  Â
Simple host-based access control.
MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Shared plain-text "cookies".
XDM-AUTHORIZATION-1Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Secure
DES based private-keys.
SUN-DES-1Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Based on Sun's secure rpc system.
MIT-KERBEROS-5Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Kerberos Version 5 user-to-user.
Try first just "xhost remotemachine'sFDQN" such as "xhost foo.bar.com"
if that doesn't work then try this:
"xauth nextract - $DISPLAY" on the remote machine. Copy the output
and transfer, on the home machine, into this command:
"xauth merge -"
You'll get an empty line after issuing the previous command so if you
have a the xauth nextract number sitting there in your remote shell, just
highlight and then transfer to the input of the xauth merge command's waiting
input.
All this info is in the "xauth" man page. Linux ships with the
more secure "by user" method of authentication rather than the "by host"
method on other Unixes. SSH takes care of the transfer of keys in
the background. I wonder if you can combine dxpc with SSH?
