Check if you have telnetd-ssl installed, instead of telnetd.

I am running both slink and potato without any problems.

Are you upgraded to frozen?

Subject: [ale] telnetd problems

I've just upgraded another server to Debian potato, and it has come up
with it's own unique problem. I cannot telnet to it. I can't even do
"telnet localhost". I get connected and then I get "connection dropped
by foreign host" immediately afterwards. I've check inetd.conf (it's in
there) and I've checked to see if it's tcpd related (I don't think it
is). I can find NO log file entries after trying to connect.
Suggestions?

Thanks.

P.S.
My problem with IP_ALIAS went away with the potato upgrade.
