[ale] GDB / DDD under X

        You're probably trying to run a prebuilt binary on a box
running a kernel without the /dev/pts filesystem.  If the output from
`mount' doesn't show something like:

none on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)

        You'll probably need to recompile ddd yourself from sources.
