[ale] dsl snmp monitor suggestions?

Ok,
I'm having some nasty problems with my dsl. Occasionally it just
stops passing packets. Due to something up stream, I couldn't traceroute
to me. Supposedly they just opened it. At any rate, this bugger does
snmp so I'd like to turn on some monitoring. I have 2 boxes which are
headless, running debian woody. Any suggestions on a good tool that'll
log every couple of seconds the current status, etc? I want to put up
a daemon that will hit a remote site ssh port every minute and tell me
when I loose connectivity. I can write this portion, but want a good
snmp tool that'll do some heavy probing of the router and logging so
I can find a correlation.

Robert
