Well, I just got ahold of a used CD writer, and I am keeping in mind that
the writer may be defective, but, I wanted to know if anyone has
encountered this before.
I have installed cdrecord. I figured that the easiest starting point
would be to write some audio files to a CD, so I went to the directory
where I had put five wav files (44100, 16, stereo) and issued this
command:
cdrecord -dummy dev=1,0,0 -pad -audio *.wav
This completed successfully.
...however, if I remove the -dummy from this, I get the following:
Starting to write CD/DVD at speed 2 in write mode for single session.
Last chance to quit, starting real write in 1 seconds.
cdrecord: Input/output error. write_g1: scsi sendcmd: retryable error

write track data: error after 0 bytes

cdrecord: Input/output error. close track/session: scsi sendcmd: retryable

Now, I took cdrecord's word for it at first that the power calibration
area was full, because I had been messing with things for a bit, and so I
got out a fresh CD, popped it in, and lo and behold, it still declares
that the power calibration area is full. Anybody seen this before?
